EnAct (Winter 2003 -

The City of Madison, Dane County,
Madison Gas and Electric, and various partners hired
Madison Environmental Group to develop and manage
EnAct. EnAct creates Environmental Action Teams in
neighborhoods and community groups to promote sustainable
living and strengthen communities. Team participants
take actions to reduce waste, conserve energy and
water, protect water quality, and reduce automobile
use. On average, participating households save 183
pounds of garbage, 570 kWh of electricity, 39 therms
of natural gas, 14,487 gallons of water, 1,126 vehicle

Area Car-Free Challenge (Fall Annually)
Madison Environmental Group organized
our 4th Annual Madison Car-Free Challenge, September
22 - October 6, 2006. To raise awareness of the environmental,
health, and economic benefits of reducing car travel,
we offered incentives to people who try to live car-free
or "car-lite" for two weeks. We measured
results to demonstrate that individual actions add
up to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions
