Johnson Fund (LINK) of Racine, Wisconsin has provided
a grant for the development of an Environmental Action
Team (EnAct) program in the greater Racine, Wisconsin
area. Since 2003, when Madison Environmental Group
developed and launched EnAct, hundreds of area households
have taken steps to reduce waste, conserve energy
and water, protect water quality, and reduce automobile
use. On average, participating households save 183
pounds of garbage, 570 kWh of electricity, 39 therms
of natural gas, 14,487 gallons of water, 1,126 vehicle
miles, 2,196 pounds of CO2, and $281 per year.

Culver's Biofuel Promotion (Summer
2005 - Winter 2005)
Madison Environmental Group received
a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Administration,
Division of Energy to partner with Culver's Restaurants
to develop a vegetable oil-fueled fleet of vehicles
for Culver's Restaurants throughout Wisconsin. We
developed a toolkit of technical and financial information
to assist Culver's franchise owners in converting
diesel vehicles to run on waste fryer oil from their
restaurants. Vegetable oil is a renewable fuel source
that produces zero net greenhouse gas emissions, zero
sulfur emissions, and less particulate matter ("soot")
than diesel or gasoline. It can also provide significant
cost savings over petroleum-based fuels.

recycling for Madison's new Overture Center for the
Arts. We worked with J.H. Findorff & Son to recover
up to 80% of the construction waste stream! As of
March 2005, Findorff recycled 6,350 tons of wood,
metal, concrete, cardboard, paper, drywall, and more.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources funded part
of this construction recycling pilot project. The

Parking Installation (Spring 2002 - Winter 2005)
For Alliant Energy we managed the
installation of a Greenspace parking area in Janesville,
Wisconsin, which we designed using an innovative redevelopment
process. The site was a former Manufactured Gas Plant
and is now an active substation providing electricity
to the community. The greenspace redevelopment plan
incorporates native prairie vegetation, trees, shrubs,
an asphalt drive and green parking. The City of Janesville
will lease, operate and maintain the green space and

For Alliant Energy we managed the
installation of a greenspace in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
The installation is the result of a redevelopment
plan we designed to create a 9-acre greenspace on
a former manufactured gas plant site. The space includes
a tallgrass prairie, a dog park and puppy park for
use by the Fond du Lac community. The dog park is
planted in native prairie vegetation. It will include
mowed paths and a parking area for approximately 25

Group to prepare outreach materials for their Great
Lakes water initiative to build support at the local
level to protect, conserve, restore and improve water
conditions in the Great Lakes region. We co-wrote,
designed and published Wisconsin Water – Our
Way of Life. We also created a PowerPoint presentation
and summary document to use as a communication tool
in meetings with mayors and other municipal leaders
across Wisconsin. Clean Wisconsin received funding
from the Mott and Joyce foundations to conduct this
